Harmony Day Today has been designated Harmony Day. The message of Harmony Day is that Everyone Belongs, which means all Australians are a welcome part of our country, regardless of their background. The Department of Immigration and Citizenship suggests it’s a time to reflect on where Australia has come from, recognising the traditional owners of this land. It’s also about community participation, inclusiveness and respect – celebrating the different cultures that make Australia a great place to live.
Silver Tree has been invited to mark this day by visiting the Treetops Montessori School in Darlington where the children from our schools will participate in a range of activities. It is a friendly gesture and a good chance for our two small private schools to catch up with one another.
SEA Conference On the theme of Harmony, Silver Tree was represented at the Steiner Education Australia (SEA) Annual General Meeting and conference last weekend in Melbourne. Representatives from four of the five Steiner schools in WA were there along with reps from a majority of the schools nationwide. The sense of cooperation and support between the schools of many different colours was palpable. For Silver Tree the opportunity to be included in this very strong organisation is welcome. Benefits of inclusion in SEA are access to the Australian Steiner Curriculum Framework and advice on a range of matters that affect our schools. Instead of reinventing the wheel every time a hindrance appears or we need an advocate to the government, we can refer to the SEA and get wise counsel and tangible support.
Bush Dance This Saturday night the annual Bush Dance fundraiser will be held. Thank you to Kristy Brookes for stepping up to manage this event as well as the many other parents who are working to make it a fun ‘ole hoe down.
Pilgrim’s Play Congratulations to the Pilgrim class on their production of Ramayana. It is hard to remember you are only 10, 11 and 12 year old children when we see you tread the boards and sing with such splendour. Well done to all involved, especially their teacher, Yvette.
This newsletter is jam packed with articles about what is happening in classes.
