Silver Tree Staff

Jo Blundell – Kindergarten Teacher
Jo Blundell came to Waldorf Education through her work as a private tutor for dyslexic children in Perth. This coincided with the birth of her first child and so her journey at Silver Tree began, first as a parent and later as a teacher. She has a Bachelor of  Science in Environmental Studies  from London University, a Post Grad Cert Ed from Bristol University and a Diploma in Dyslexia Therapy from The Hornsby Centre in London. Before migrating to Australia she worked for seven years in High Schools in Africa and travelled extensively. She began her formal Anthroposophical training in 2002 and completed her Steiner Teacher Training in Perth in 2005. Both her children attended Silver Tree.

Megan Carter – Class 2/3 Teacher – “Wayfarers”
I completed a Bachelor of Education in Post Primary Physical Education/English in 1988 and worked in mainstream education from that time until 2004. In 2005 my husband, our two daughters and I travelled around Australia with our caravan in tow and after 10 months on the road we decided to stop in Perth for a while. As we were looking for a Steiner school with a rural feel, we enrolled the children at The Silver Tree Steiner School in the beautiful Perth Hills.

Having found the school to be a warm and nurturing place with a strong sense of community, it didn’t take us long to decide to stay, and we recently purchased a home of our own in the hills. After assisting with the 4 year old kindergarten children for a term, then the Pilgrims class (when they were a class 1/2) for a year, in 2008 I began my own classroom journey and am currently on the exciting journey through the curriculum with my beautiful family of 22 class 2/3 children in the Wayfarers class. Since we arrived just over 5 years ago, I have also completed my Diploma of Steiner Education to complement previous study of Audrey McAllen’s “The Extra Lesson” (as a certificate of Movement and Learning in Melbourne).

Yvette Ghouse – Class 4/5 Teacher – “Pilgrims”
Yvette is of Dutch origin and grew up in Scotland and England.  She moved to Australia in 1998 where she attained a Graduate Diploma in Education.  After graduation she worked as a state school relief teacher for many years in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, often teaching in remote communities.  It was during this time that she joined a small Steiner study group with a view to starting up a school in Broome.  Her last year in Broome saw Yvette teach in a state school after which she and her husband moved to Perth.  She worked at Silver Tree Steiner School as a relief teacher then took on the role as class teacher for the then class 1’s and 2’s.  She is now in her third year of teaching at Silver Tree and is undertaking a course in Foundation Anthroposophy, which she will complete by the end of 2010.

Melissa Harvey -Teaching and Handwork Craft Assistant in Class 2 and 3
Melissa has studied theatre, writing, philosophy and public relations at university and is currently completing both her teaching qualification and foundation units in Steiner education. Melissa has a passion for writing and painting and has been a part of the Silver Tree community for over four years.

Diana Hill – Handwork Craft Assistant in Class 4/5
Di has worked in early childhood for 10 years and taught mosaics for 8 years. She is passionate about environmental issues, arts and crafts. Di loves cooking and playing in her permaculture garden. Her greatest joy is spending time with her 3 little granddaughters, the eldest of which is attending a Steiner school.

Paul Lawrence – Music Teacher
Paul began teaching music soon after leaving school. An interest in holistic education led him to study Alexander Technique teaching. Then, with his own children, the search led him to Steiner education. Paul began teaching at West Coast Steiner School in 2000 and at Silver Tree Steiner School in 2001. He is currently overseeing a new High School Music Program at Perth Waldorf school and working part time at the Silver Tree.

Paul has lived and studied in Bali, Germany and Switzerland. He is passionate about the arts and about education. He enjoys composing music in his spare time.
