Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. -Leo Buscaglia

This term we are in a place of transition. Our most committed, dedicated and much loved Principal, Bruce Lee has moved to take up the position of School Administrator at Perth Waldorf School. We wish Bruce well and know that his legacy will live on quietly and profoundly at Silver Tree.

Recently, I read the quote above and immediately my thoughts rested on the many images I have of Bruce and the lives he has touched in so many ways. I thought of him digging the ground to lay the foundations for the cubby in the Lillypilly Kindergarten, planting trees that line the path, spreading mulch, working at the computer to access yet another grant for the school, on the stage reciting words from the Play ‘The Two Flutes’ ever so eloquently, giving a rich and meaningful speech at the BER opening, networking with management members at Delegates meetings, assisting other schools with their Registration, employment of staff or just to give his advice.

Bruce stood tall, listening and attending to the staff, parents and representatives from various educational bodies and bent down low, to hear the stories of our young children. As a Board member his reports were full and informative yet really gave only a small picture of the immense work he had undertaken with the vibrant parents and staff to bring our school to the place it is today. Thank you for all you and your family have given Bruce. You will always be welcome here at Silver Tree.

The holidays saw a dedicated team of parents busy to have the school ready for the term; some is mentioned in this newsletter. The teachers have studied over the holidays and bring their new learning and planning to their children. We welcome Maureen Hampele to our staff as she takes over the position of German teacher from Anna. We will speak more of Maureen in a future issue.

This coming Wednesday evening, all parents are most welcome to attend the Annual General Meeting. Bruce and the Board Members will be in attendance. Reports on finance, school performance, faculty and P&F will be available, giving an overview of the year that has been. We will begin at 7pm. If there are any items for general business please contact Lisa Joy (Chairperson) prior to the meeting on 0428101208. So come and share in the first AGM on the new school site.
