A Sustainable School

A Sustainable School

A sustainable and caring approach to the environment is of the utmost importance and has been one of our guiding principles since Silver Tree Steiner School opened in 1997.

Waterwise local native trees and plants have been used in landscaping. Grey water is recycled using ATU units and half the school’s electricity is generated using solar panels. Included in the school’s design are large outdoor learning areas so children can move outside on hot days to use ‘nature’s air conditioning’.

The fruit from our organic orchard and the produce from our organic food garden are used ‘from garden to kitchen’ in children’s cooking classes.

One million litres of water are stored in rainwater tanks giving students access to fresh drinking rainwater all year round.

The school is committed to chemical-free grounds. Soaps, cleaning materials and gardening resources are all sourced from companies committed to producing chemical-free products.

Silver Tree is a certified Waste Wise School and part of the Sustainable Schools initiative.
