Silver Tree Steiner School Commences Term on New Land
Congratulations to the school community on the commencement of classes on such beautiful land in our brand spanking new buildings.
On Monday morning, current and former students, parents, staff and friends gathered in 2 circles, said the morning verse for the last time on that site, shared some memories and handed back the keys. We then crossed the brook and trekked up the hill to our new school where we had a chance to acknowledge the original inhabitants of the land, give thanks to our wonderful relocation committee, hear a beautiful poem and sing some lovely songs including our very own version of “This Land is Your Land”.
Teachers, with kind volunteer support have managed, in a short time, to make their classrooms beautiful and this gift to the children has been very well received. While we wait for the grass to establish and play equipment to be brought in, the primary children have discovered a huge new bush play area. Cubbies and fairy gardens are already being created. What imagination they show!
To have realised the dream of the current school on this land, many people need to be thanked for their tireless efforts over the holidays, on weekends and for many, many months of background planning, meetings and endless paperwork. From laying grass to building verandas, the volunteer spirit shown by these generous parents and friends goes unpaid, and at the time it can feel quite thankless but it has resulted in a school that incorporates many environmentally sustainable features and is a beautiful location for children to learn and grow. We are very fortunate and can feel very proud.
More support is needed, especially with rock retaining, building small sheds, putting up play equipment and landscaping. Something as simple as sweeping the verandah pads is a significant help.
Come along on Saturday between about 9.30am and 1.00pm to lend a hand.
